Permit Types Available
- ✓ New single family dwellings / modular homes
- ✓ Commercial buildings
- ✓ Residential additions, alterations, repairs
- ✓ Decks, roofs, new structures
- ✓ Electrical, gas, mechanical, plumbing
- ✓ Siding and window replacement
General Residential Requirements
- • All submitted online via MyGovernmentOnline
- • Fences under 7' do NOT require building permit (but contact Planning for zoning)
- • Residential structures >200 sq ft require permit
- • Commercial structures >120 sq ft require permit

Contractor Licensing

- 🔧 All commercial projects MUST have licensed General Contractor and licensed subs — owner cannot do the work
- 🔧 Homeowner exemption: residence MUST be for use/occupancy of homeowner only (not built for sale or lease)

Things to Know
- 💡 ALL permits online-only since January 1, 2020
- 💡 Permits valid 6 months from issue; remain valid as long as inspection within 6 months
- 💡 Expired permit + no inspections within 6 months = possible citation
- 💡 General Contractor responsible for ensuring project is finalized and permit closed
- 💡 Fences <7' don't need building permit but DO have planning/zoning requirements
- 💡 Residential vs commercial square footage thresholds differ (200 vs 120 sq ft)
- 💡 Residential processing: ~7-10 business days
- 💡 Commercial processing: ~10-14 business days
